Red Sox Scratch O'Neill from Lineup with Finger Inflammation
Late Change Announced Before Game
Outfielder Out for Friday's Contest
The Boston Red Sox have announced that outfielder Tyler O'Neill has been scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks due to left fourth finger inflammation.
The move was made about 90 minutes before first pitch, with no immediate word on the severity of O'Neill's injury.
O'Neill was originally scheduled to bat fifth and play left field in Friday's game.
The Red Sox will now likely start Jarren Duran in left field and move Rafael Devers to third base.
Update: O'Neill Out for Extended Period
According to a later report from ESPN's Jeff Passan, O'Neill is expected to miss multiple weeks with a fractured finger.
The injury is a significant blow to the Red Sox, who are already without several key players, including Trevor Story, Xander Bogaerts, and Chris Sale.
