Rutgers University Athletics Director Patrick Hobbs has resigned from his position, according to multiple reports.

Hobbs, who was hired in 2015, was the longest-tenured AD in the Big Ten.

He will be replaced by Deputy Athletic Director Ryan.

Hobbs Cited Health Reasons for His Departure

Hobbs did not provide a detailed reason for his departure, but he said in a statement that he was "looking forward to spending more time with my family and pursuing other interests."

Hobbs also thanked Rutgers University and the athletic department for the opportunity to serve.

Hobbs Oversaw Success at Rutgers

During his tenure as AD, Hobbs oversaw the football program's return to national prominence under coach Greg Schiano.

He also hired Steve Pikiell as men's basketball coach, and the team has made the NCAA Tournament in each of the past three seasons.

Rutgers to Begin Search for New Athletic Director

Rutgers University will now begin a search for a new athletic director.
