Earth Overshoot Day 2024: Humanity's Consumption Exceeds Earth's Capacity
TODAY - August 1, 2024
Global Footprint Network Announces Annual Earth Overshoot Day
Today, August 1, 2024, marks Earth Overshoot Day, the calculated date when humanity's resource consumption for the year exceeds Earth's capacity to regenerate those resources.
According to the Global Footprint Network, an international research organization that hosts and calculates Earth Overshoot Day, humanity has been living in overshoot since the early 1970s.
This means that we are consuming resources at a rate that cannot be sustained, and we are accumulating an ecological debt that will eventually need to be repaid.
