5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Southern California

Earthquake Rattles Los Angeles Area

Tuesday Night Quake Causes No Major Damage

A moderately strong 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck in Southern California on Tuesday night, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake was centered near the town of Lamont, about 10 miles northeast of Bakersfield. It was felt across a wide area, including Los Angeles, San Diego, and Las Vegas.

The earthquake caused no major damage or injuries. However, it did trigger a number of smaller aftershocks, the largest of which was a 4.2-magnitude quake that occurred about an hour after the main event. Seismologists say it is possible that more aftershocks could occur in the coming days or weeks.

Southern California is a seismically active region, and earthquakes are a common occurrence. However, quakes of this size are relatively rare. The last time a quake of this magnitude struck the area was in 2019.
